I had a hard time choosing the images for this post!  There are just so many that I love so much.  The session was magical….. 8 day old Weston was so handsome, sleepy and cuddly, and his parents are some of the sweetest too (not to mention, gorgeous!)  I often get questions about how the session goes- what exactly happens during those 2-3 hours?  I’m going to take this opportunity to explain a bit of my workflow during your session.

Newborn sessions are totally laid back, calm and relaxing.  This helps your baby stay sleepy and relaxed.  I work patiently and slowly and your baby’s comfort is always my top priority.  Many babies have frequent breaks for feedings and snuggles with mom and dad- and some will sleep right through, not waking once.  Each child is different and I always work within their unique personality.

Weston was a very sleepy boy, not fussy at all, waking 1-2 times for short feedings.  His session was 2 hours long.  We started with some simple, natural posing on a white blanket.

I like starting with a simple black or white background, and natural posing for your little one. This helps me get a feel for how well they sleep and how they will tolerate being moved around.

Next, we did some family and mom and baby photographs. Weston was woken up a bit as he was passed around. A quick feed put him back into a deep sleep.

We also did a few on a black background. These ones look especially nice in black and white!

Then it was time to move Weston to the bean bag. Here I will do several different poses, using some wraps, hats/headbands, outfits and blankets.

Colours, props and clothing are discussed prior to the session. I choose the colours and items prior to your arrival based on the discussion we have at our consulation.  Weston’s parents were fond of neutral colours with a bit of a rustic look.
and Macros of course! Those close ups of the delicate details of your newborn; eyelashes, lips, flaky skin, tiny toes and crinkled ears.

2-3 props are chosen for each session. Parents hands are always on the baby or hovering nearby when a baby is on a prop.

Thank you so much to Caitlin and Aidan for choosing me as your photographer and allowing me the privilege to spend this special time with you creating beautiful portraits of your new baby. Weston is absolutely perfect, congratulations!
